I have no idea where my mom got the recipe for these but they have become a Mootz traditional app. My mom would make a bunch of batches at a time, then freeze and store them in ziplock bags. That way when guests would drop in, or I would bring home 5 or 6 hungry teenage friends she had an amazingly delicious app she could pop in the oven.
Ingredients
½ Stick butter, softened
1 T Mayonnaise
1 5oz Jar Old English Cheese
Hot sauce to taste
1 T Lemon juice
1 pkg English muffins
3 Shallots, minced
7 oz Cooked crab meat, good quality
Directions
Combine first seven ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir. Slice English muffins in half and spread each one with the mixture. Freeze for 30 min, remove and slice into quarters for re-freezing. When ready to cook, remove from freezer and place directly onto baking sheet, under broiler (do not thaw) and broil until browned.
